Somme Prairie Grove is located in Northbrook, Illinois. You can get there by car, train, or bus:

By CAR

Drive to the Somme Woods forest preserve parking lot on Dundee Road just east of Waukegan Road. Park in the first or second set of spaces and cross the mowed lawn to the west to the "Trail" sign. Then follow the small orange flags as a narrower footpath branches off to the left. It takes you to the corner of Dundee and Waukegan, where you can cross at the light, and where more orange flags lead to the trail system, as shown on the map. It's a little difficult to get to this preserve, but that makes it all the more secluded and protected a place to enjoy while you're there.

By TRAIN

Take a Fox Lake, Deerfield or Grayslake (Milwaukee District North Line) train to Northbrook. Walk northeast on Shermer Road 1/3 block to Meadow Road. Walk north on Meadow Road about one mile to Dundee Road. Walk west about 1/4 block to the railroad tracks. Cross Dundee here and look for the small orange flags at the northeast corner that mark the entrance to the preserve footpath system.

BY BUS

Take the PACE bus number 422 to Dundee Road. At the northwest corner of Waukegan and Dundee, you'll find the entrance to the preserve trail marked with a small orange flag.
