This is what the site looks like from the air. Small? It might look small, but people get lost. It's bigger than it looks. Coyotes, deer and great-horned owls live there, as do five species of non-poisonous snakes and four species of frogs. If you visit, don't get lost; bring the map.

Somme Prairie Grove is 90 acres. To the left in this photo (west) is the 70-acre Somme Prairie Nature Preserve (mostly brush in the part you see here). To the right (east) is the approximately 250-acre Somme Woods, also mostly brush in this photo.

Waukegan Road (on the right) is the east edge of Somme Prairie Grove, Dundee Road angles across the bottom, and the Metra tracks mark the western edge.
